CultFilms is a new UK DVD label specialising in World Cinema, creating from the merger of two established labels in the field – Nouveaux Pictures and Argent Films.

The aim of the label is produce high quality releases of international  classics, and they are kicking off in style with two Sophia Loren films – Two Women, directed by Vittorio De Sica, and A Special Day by Ettore Scola, both of which are presented from restored negatives. A Special Day also shows at the ICA on October 23rd.

There are more Loren classics to come – Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow, Marriage, Italian Style and Boccaccio 70 – alongside some of the greats of international film, including The Battle of Algiers (restored in 4K) and what is promised to be a complete Fellini collection, starting with La Dolce Vita and 81/2.

This collection looks to be pretty essential, and with impressive extras – including the documentary Sophia: Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow – we can’t wait to dig into them.
